Revised Ferry Timetable 1 Year, 7 Months ago
|
|
Just discovered that there is currently a revised ferry timetable operating on many of Calmac's routes, due to technical problems with the MV Clansman (the usual ferry on the Tiree route).
Apparantly, the Clansman has suffered a crankshaft failure and she is currently undergoing repair in Greenock. There is no indication when she will return to service at this time.
The revised timetable can be found on Calmac's website; here. Hopefully, all will be back to normal by the time we are heading over, but it's probably a slightly larger job than replacing the crankshaft on a mini
There is just something about travel arrangements and ME

Fear not...... I have it in very good authority ( well the barman on the Hebridean Isles which has replaced the Clansman) that all will be well by the 8th of July. That was of course before the Heb captain decided to crash into Tiree pier last night!!!!!!! 2 hours later it was allowed to sail but getting a full safety inspection this morning. It's a dreadful little boat with not enough seating and a strange roll to it.

Well that's not a problem them, must be true !!
That was of course before the Heb captain decided to crash into Tiree pier last night!!!!!!!
Would that be the same captain that put a hole in the Isle of Arran last March !!
Islay Web Blog
The reason for the technical problems is the grounding of the Isle of Arran ferry at Oban last week (...March 21, 2009...). Apparently the captain went on the wrong side of a buoy and ran aground. There seems to be quite a bit of damage done. I have been told there is a hole in the hull (not confirmed) and the ship is now in dry-dock for repairs.
I think Calmac need to check the experience of some of their crew or at least their Captain's ... think I'll sit in a life boat for the entire crossing, just in case !!
Well hopefully all will be sorted in a week or two (I heard it could be a further two weeks, but unconfirmed), well before we are due on Tiree, but I did warn you that when it comes to making travel arrangement, I appear to be seriously jinxed.

Yeh, the Clansman that normally runs the Tiree route has an engine problem, so they pinched the Hebridean from the Islay route to run Oban-Coll-Tiree unitl it is repaired, but as Judith says, the Captian has now run the Hebridean into the pier on Tiree so it will have to go for repair at some point. So not only have the residents on Islay had one of their ferries nicked, it's been trashed by some low life joy rider ...
Trouble is the Hedridean is a much smaller ferry (only 60 odd vehicles instead of the 90 that the Clansman takes). The ferry to Tiree was already fully booked (online booking was on longer offering the Saturday sailing about a month ago) so until the Clansman is back, they're having to run additional sailings. Hopefully, they'll get them all fixed by the end of July ....
