Hi all,

A 50 something determined to kite buggy sooner than later. Caught a glimpse of Owain and Judith’s TracktionKiting camper van at St Andrews West Sands and thanks to them, completely hooked.

Owain and Judith patiently and supportively, encouraged, me through the art of static quad line power kiting, after a day training session lwhich also involved Xsail, loved every minute of it but as always when you watch experts it looks all so easy.

Never got to experience a bug, went away to practice my new extreme sport skills and have been up at St Andrews and an occasional odd trip to Troon’s south beach ever since.

PKD Buster III 2m minus my free sand stake

Any advice, stories or health warnings appreciated,

Regards
Neil

Hi Neil

I have been buggying about 1 year my favourite kite is the beamer 4m in most winds up to about 20mph or the 2.4 rad in 20mph plus.
I have not mastered the art of 2 wheel buggying yet, but i have done some good broadsides, and reverse buggying by accident.
the first time i took my buggy out brand new I rapped it around a play park swing and buckled the front forks, been more careful ever since.
always allow plenty of time to stop, and watch out for dogs pissing on the kite while you are resting.

good luck

Welcome to the forum Neil!! Where are you based normally??

I fly (when I can these days) at Stevenston (Ardeer Beach). Been kiting for about eleven years now of that only 8 have been powerkiting / buggying.

In terms of advice there are many people here who could type all day with tips and hints and how to's but at the moment the one thing I will give you is don't go out in a wind that you thiiiink is touching the strong side. Find your limit by working from gentle winds up, rather than getting a scare in a high wind and then deciding that it was too strong.

It's much better to miss a day because it's too windy for you than to brave it for the sake of it and do yourself an injury. Apart from that get stuck in and have fun!! It will very probably become a multi kite sport for you fairly quickly . Hope to see you on the beach soon!

Hi James,

Based in South Lanarkshire, had a wee trip to Stevenson last Saturday, on the off chance of spotting a lone kitter!

Practiced a couple of times at Troon South Beach but as you say strong winds not the best time to try out my skills.

Thanks for the advice and when I have something specific I'ii post it up.

Hi Jim,

Nice one with the buggy, reminds me of my first brand new car, wrapped it around an iron gate on day one.
