23 - 01 - 07 - cairngorm pretty nice for downhill stuff with plenty of runs full. as for the snowkite side of things, the summit is looking nice on the ne side but needing more snow for the classic NW wind session.

Hey Kitehighland

I see you're talking about kiteskiing (or boarding) or the Gorm.... are you allowed to do that? I'm a regular at Nevis range (although I live in Inverness) and have never risked kiteboarding on the summit there due to the 2,000ft cliff to the NE!!!! But would be interested in doing some at Cairngorm if I got away with it!! :evilhorns:

I just know from several years working there as a ski instructor (in a past life) that the attitude (of management and staff) is generally quite bad and wondered if they would chase you for going up the Funicular and then kiting? Have you been doing it and are there others that do it too? I have a couple of rockhopper boards so don't mind going offpiste around the summit tearing the @rse (sorry if this is a bad word to use on this forum....let me know and I'll edit it! :police: ) of my board!!

Cheers

serves him right, ross used to have me on speed dial and the amount of calls and mesages i got from rosses pocket was unreal

welcome newt, yes, i have done a fair bit of work at nevis range and the summit is defo out but the back corries may be fun with the right wind direction. with scottish access, snowkiting is allowed although technically you woul;d have to walk up rather than get a ticket but at £20 for a hlf day beginner area pass, the walk is worth it. best wind is a nw up above the last tow on tarmichan. you can get up to the summit of cairngorm, passing bewildered walkers as you go then speed down pulling the biggest airs of you life. the marquis well area works well with a ne wind as well.

Hey All

Thanks for the welcome, I've not ventured on to the water YET,,,, but would like to at some point!! So I'm mainly land based, Buggy first and then Board.... Love the buggy!!! Managed to scare the life out of myself at Ardersier a few weeks ago in all that high wind!!! Learnt a new respect for kites and traction sport that day!

Yea, back of Nevis.... worth a try but if the slopes are good then I guess I know where I'll be!? Although I would be up for going to the gorm and hiking up to enjoy the summit.... count me in when the snow returns...... Sigh is it winter yet????

Ross, maybe you should edit your post and remove the moby Number... I have written it down. I live in Inverness but work in Nairn and mainly buggy at Kingsteps (East of Nairn), so do you have transport? We don't really tend to have set arrangements but just make last minute decisions when the conditions are right (although planning Kingsteps this Monday evening if there's wind) where do you go locally?

Kitehighland, are you using fixed or depower when you snow kite? I've never used depower but am thinking about an access 2, what do you (or anyone else) think?

Cheers

The Access 2 is a brilliant kite, I had mine out today (6m Access) in about 30mph winds and was getting some nice buggy jumps in with it, but it is designed not to have that much lift. Grunty kite and handles gusts a dream!
If your ever down this way (St Andrews) your welcome to demo it!

Thanks for the welcome Owain, you posted your comments while I was typing mine,,,, I too can't wait for the snow to return!! :zzzz: I was so excited waiting for this seasons snow but it seemed to come and go before I got round to trying it out!! Guess I was more interested in using the lifts! Plus didn't really want to head out on my own and get blown off a cliff or anything silly like that!! I know just how unpredictable our fine mountain weather can be, I've been caught out by instant doubling+ of wind speed at sea level more than once so was giving the mountains the respect they deserve, well until I built up my skills sufficiently!!!! Getting there now so next season for sure..... Sigh still not winter!!!

Have heard nothing but good reports about the Access 2, you might have just given me the urge to resist sensibility and just buy another kite.... like I really need one!!! Hehe you always need another kite eh? If in the unlikely event that I am down your way (before I get an Access) I will definitely take you up on the offer of a demo!!

As I was asking Kitehighland I assume that depower is the best or safest option for snow kiting? My crossfire is just shear power and if the wind builds rapidly (as it could and does up our mountains frequently) I could get into some real trouble!!! Also see that a few people down south (on other forums) use the access 2 for buggying even though it's on a bar. What length of bar do you use when buggying? or is there only one choice as standard?
