Speak to Jim or KiteHighland, they have done both..... I think the ATB is easier to learn if your kite skills arent great. Dirtsurfer's are a bit unstable at low speed but once they are rolling they get much more stable. Some footage of Jim on his DS here : O.

dirtsurfer = more difficult to learn but more satisfying, faster, not as able for frestyle as an atb.

I have the freestyle dirtsurfer (smaller wheels and flexi board) and to me it feels just like a board. I have three dirtsurfers and usually travel with two of them. If I am over in st andies when your there your more than welcome to have a go.
