Second time around!! 3 Years, 2 Months ago

|
Hi all. I'm new here and I'm looking for a bit of advice on a kite. I'm 43yrs old and was into kites as a kid......yeah that long ago. Had a Powel stunt kite...oh yeah!!Me and my son regularly fly a small Symphony 2 line on the beach. I live in Nairn, N.E Scotland and I'm looking at getting into traction kite flying, possibly boarding if my old knees will stand it!! Looking at a Beemer 4m, any thoughts? Did I say I'm also 6'2" and 14st!

I would recommend something smaller as your first kite, 2m would be a good start. Its suprising how much power is in a traction kite.
Kites that I recommend to people tend to be those that I have knowledge about, the PKD Buster II 2m is a brilliant kite. I've heard the new HQ Beamers are quite good, never flown one though so can't compare it to the Busters.

Hi Jon,
I'm also 6'2" , 40, more than 14st  ( This reads like a dating forum)
The first traction kite I had was the 3mtr PKD Buster II, It has been more than able to pull me round on a buggy and face first down the field a few times.
It is better to have started on a smaller kite and move up size than to start large and scare yourself out of the sport

As I read more I think a smaller Buster might be in order, cheaper too and being a Yorkshire chap that appeals too!!

Shameless plug : If you do decided to go for a PKD Buster, give us a shout as we can set it up for you and have it posted up ready to fly. The 09 Busters do look nice, can check on availability.

Hi
Owain mentioned the HQ Beamer III -- I can recommend the 2 or 3m versions for a beginner -- I have the 5m which is a lovely kite...
I can also recommend Peter Lynn's Pepper II (I have the 4m) or the new Hornet. Again I would go with the 2 or 3m size...
Finally check out the Ozone Imp Quattros -- either the 2.5 or 3.5m size would be good for starters...
For the record I'm 49 (50 on December the 1st!), 6ft 1', and 140kg...
Brian
PS I think everyone of a similar age must have had a Peter Powell Stunt Kite!!!!
I had the blue one with a pink tail...

Arhhhhhh days on the moors above Bradford with me Blue Peter Powel, those were the days! I went to school with Tim Benson who builds a stunt kite or two these days. Thanks for all the advice on makes and sizes. Will be hinting to Mrs.Lane as it's my birthday in December too.
