over flying? 3 Years, 9 Months ago
Was out today with my 5m Beamer III for the 1st time in a decent enough wind, but I found I had to keep it constantly on the move, if I let it get above my head it went waaaay over my head and then behind me where it just folded and came crashing down.

Any paticular reason as to why it would go behind me?

sounds like gusty wind.
when a gust hits, the wind window increases in size so the kite overflies. then when the speed dies so does the size of the window leaving the kite outside of it without wind hitting the right bits so it colapses.
2 ways you could prevent this 1, with the kite at the zenith tweak alternately on the brakes, this will keep the kite further back in the window 2, physically keep the kite flying further back in the window. both these methods keep the kite flying in the `smaller` wind window so prevents luffing.
i am sure some phisics boffins may rip that apart but gives a good explanation for normal people

What he said.

If I put the blade up and it flies over the top and behind my heed I put the thing straight back down again. Injury taught me that

Previous statements sound accurate to me. Any little updraughts caused by gusty winds will push the kite behind you, when the updraught stops, the AOA will be negative, i'e the leading edge of the kite will be lower than the trailing edge, so the kite will fold under, or collapse, and chaos ensues.... .

Try adding a sliiiight pressure onto the breaks whilst its sitting up the top, or use one of th eother methods mentioned above, all of them work well .

I've found my Twister doing that to me a lot, the best method I use is just tweaking on the brake lines to keep it in check. Theres nothing worse than when the kite goes over your head then comes gently floating down in a heap before catching the wind again and hauling you off your feet and onto your face! Learned the hard way about that, haha!

As James said "chaos ensues.... " lol

This thread is over a year old

Hopefully they have solved the problem but you are correct Andy, a wee tweak on the brake should keep it from overflying....

WoW, can't believe I've had my Beamer over a year now.

Also feel kinda bad for not replying to this post at the time :/

Anyway, I got this sorted, wee tweaks on the brakes was what was needed. I fly this kite with no problems now, like on South Beach, Saltcoats last night... Great fun.

Thanks guys
