I will sound daft here but gotta learn somewhere, so here goes a couple of questions :

1.What keeps you attached to the buggy if your getting air, so that its not just you getting lifted.

2.Whats the crack with a harness/spreader bar, can you only attach to a bar from a harness. If your on handles does that mean there is no relief so to speak.

3.Alternative kites to blade to get air when kiting (for future reference).

Cheers.

Hey we all have to learn somewhere -

1) What keeps you in the buggy - you need to make yourself a seat belt of sort either a 2 point lap belt attached across the side rails of the buggy or a 3 point harness system attached across the side rails and the down tube - but if your just learning yiou really dont want to be doing this!!! You'll need a lot of buggy time under your belt before you'll be ready - master all the ground freestyle moves, 180's,360's 2 wheels boths sides the lot then think about it again -alot of people have hurt themselves buggy jumping

2)If your flying on handles you'll need to get yourself a strop (small length of rope) that attaches to the back of the handles that way all you need to get is a harness with either a hook or roller spreader bar and hook the strop in - but again its not recomended for newbies

3) Alternative kites to the Blade - Ozone Riot, Mac Bego - both excelent kites

Hope that helps

1. Well if your racing nothing just your skill with the kite.

2. No you can attach handels to a harness you need a strop between the handles. In fact a harness is so necessary. It always amazes me why newbies don't get a harness I had one within a week so my arms stopped falling off and I could use all the power of the kite on corners.

3. A bigger blade.

RE Q2, i use a climbing harness with a swingcheek climbing pulley and a witchard quick release shackle so as i can bin the kite in an emergency. i wouldnt jump with a roller bar or hooked bar as it is possible for the strop to come out.

@kitehighland - i looked at getting a climbing harness, mainly because they're cheaper than the likes of dakine etc, and also because they're a lot easier to carry around, but several folk on racekites warned me off saying it wasn't safe as you couldn't get out in a hurry.

how does your setup work? i've heard about the witchard qr systems, is it basically a pin through a loop?

cheers

Speedy, some questions for you :

1) How long have you been kiting for?
2) How long have you been buggying for?
3) Is it buggy freestyle or buggy racing you want to get in to?
Im guessing freestyle since your asking about buggy jumping......

I personally would not recommend a newbie to use a harness, the problems with a harness is that if it goes wrong and you get face planted there is a high risk of the hook or roller getting caught in the sand / grass meaning that you cant get unhooked from the kite, the safest thing to do is learn to fly the kite in most conditions to a level where you hardly need to look at the kite. Once you are really comfortable about flying the kite then think about a harness.

Other kites that will give you lift are the Ozone Frenzys (which I use in the buggy) or Flexifoil Sabre, these are both depowerable kites which use a bar. There are other kites with plenty lift but until I know how much flying you have done I will wait

What keeps us in the the buggy, as ped said, we use seatbelts (not recommended for newbies) and we also use foot straps, so basically, if anything goes wrong i.e. bad landing and you tip the buggy over, you are still attached. You then have to pull the quick release on the seatbelt and if you are still having problems, pull the QR on your harness system like Kitehighland was talking about.

Wild Beam : Maybe worth searching the buggy section, Im sure there was a large thread about captive systems in there....CLICK HERE

For buggy jumping info there is a large thread Here

I wouldnt advice anyone to buggy jump alone, its just too risky!

some fair questions from owain there.
i have never had to bin the kite when using handles as if you get it wrong you just pull the brakes on. if i did need to bin the kite then yes it is a pin that you pull (i have attatched some cord to it as well).
i have however had a bad fall when using a sabre (depower on a bar), i ended up turtled and as the quick release was under me and the weight of me and the buggy was on top of it i could not release it. fortunately on the next gust i was airbourne and landed back on my wheels.
look at some different systems and try a few under supervision of a quality instructor ( ) is my advice. personal preference is going to be the deciding factor. i only realy buggy on handles now.

Ive been kiting for around a year i guess on and off, i would say im well used to my bullet 3.5 having flew in most conditions. As for the buggying well never tried it yet just got one (Helen's PL), i was only asking about getting air in the buggy out of interest really i know i need to get well used to it (and a diff. kite) to freestyle but its something i would like to try in the future though speed will do for now (with a few 180's/360's etc thrown in).

The harness and jumping is also something i would like to get into (never having really experienced it with the bullet), i have a flexi board and so once proficient in the use of say a blade i would look to progress to using it with the board. Im usually pretty sensible (fiance would def. disagree lol) and so know i need to get used to things before moving on a stage i.e walk before i can run so to speak.

Thanks all for advice, your seem a good bunch !!

Hey Speedy,
You might want to look at getting a different buggy for freestyle as well. The Peter Lynn buggy is a lot lower to the ground than say a Flexi and so getting two wheels will be harder because your center of gravity is a lot lower than the flexi which means the buggy is more stable. For freestyle moves you almost want the buggy to be unstable so that it will go on two wheels and spin a lot easier.
