24 Hour Challange

Some of the TK Forum members and a couple others from around Scotland have entered a team for the 24hr challenge at Hoylake this years. (June 25th / 26th)

The aim of the event is to record the greatest distance in a 24hr period using a kite and buggy (or landyacht).  For those that do not already know the current record is 652 miles by a team from the Netherlands.

They are not planning to challenge the record but hope to have some fun and raise some cash for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.

The RNLI is an independent charity, and does not receive any funding from the UK government. Their volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards can’t save lives at sea without your support.

To help raise funds Ruairidh Munro (one of the members taking part in the challange) has setup a page on JustGiving.

TK wish the team all the very best in this great fund raiser and look forward to hearing how they get on!

Right, just two days left before myself, Keith, Maggie, Mark and Stuart head down to Hoylake to take part in the 24hr Challenge.

In a true indication of dedicated kiting, Maggie and Mark attended the Celtic Challenge at St. Andrews over the weekend (putting in a sterling performance to beat many of the usual top racers with their big race kites and even bigger buggies) before heading back home to Fraserburgh for their own wedding today :o !! but will heading south again on Friday evening. I'm sure everyone will join with me in wishing them all the best for their wedding and future together.

Will try and post some photos on FB over the weekend, but will update in how things go afterwards. Cheers to those that have shown their support by sponsoring us, but it's not too late to pop over to our JustGiving page to donate to the RNLI.

Cheers and see you on the other side.

I can't believe the amount of kites and kit I seem to have gathered for the event, incl. buggy, at least 2 sets of kites (Methods, Yakuzas AND a couple of depower Access XT's), tent(s), chairs, food, sleeping bags, GPS's, lights and tools/spare just in case ... I'm going to need a truck just ot get it all out on to the beach :-*

Hopefully we'll get good kiting weather, but I've been trying NOT to look at the forecasts for the weekend (-50k distance promised by GaRRy for anyone who mentions the weather on Kitecrowd) and we'll put in a respectable performance to keep the TK end up.
